Visa Processing
After receiving the offer letter from the university, you must apply for a student pass. A student pass is only for studying a full-time course in Malaysia, not for a part-time course. The University’s Student Visa office will manage your student pass application.
The Education Malaysia Global Services (EMGS), established by the Ministry of Higher Education, processes student passes. After applying for a visa, EMGS will cooperate student’s pass application and the arrangements for medical health checks. A visa application fee will be charged.
1. Pre-Arrival
Application for a visa or student pass. For approval of a student pass, it may take 8 weeks.
2. Applying for Student Pass
You must pay the tuition fee and the visa application fee prior to the deadline. Also, all the needed documents have to be sent to the university three (3) months before the intake date. Any delay can bring complications to your visa process, so try to avoid such mistakes.
Required Documents for Student Pass Application
- Student Pass / Visa processing fee of RM3000; the fee is paid to EMGS (non-refundable) via IMU
- Completed Health Declaration Form (available at the EMGS website)
- 6 passport-size photographs (white background – size 3.5cm X 4.5cm)
- 2 photocopies of passport (ALL pages, including blank pages. Passport copies should be clear and printed on single-sided A4 paper).
- Please confirm that your passport has a validity of at least 18 months from the intake date.
Other Important Documents
- A copy of the Release Letter, including attendance & academic record, and a visa cancellation letter with an acknowledgment from EMGS/Immigration (for applicants moving from other institutions in Malaysia)

The Student Visa Office will share a copy of VAL with your email address or with your official representative (if you apply through an IMU official representative). Now apply for a Single Entry Visa.
4. Post-Arrival
- At the airport, you have to show your VAL, Single Entry Visa, Malaysia Digital Arrival Card (MDAC), and Offer Letter to the Immigration official. You will be given a temporary pass stamp in your passport, and it remains valid for 14-30 days. Please ensure that the validity is given by Immigration officials before leaving the Immigration counter.
- Within seven (7) days of your arrival, you must report to the Student Visa Office at the Admission and Marketing Department.
- Your passport will be submitted to EMGS for student pass and visa endorsement. It may take 4-6 weeks. Don’t travel until the endorsement process is completed and your passport is returned to you.
- Endorsement will only be given once if you have passed the post medical health check. EMGS can ask for a repeat test if they find any doubts in the initial medical report. Liability for additional costs to you. Failing for the second time, you will be refused a student pass and are required to leave the country before the temporary pass expires.
- You must submit your passport for endorsement. Not being able to do so will result in overstaying your temporary pass and will be considered an immigrant without papers by the Malaysian Immigration Department.
- Overstaying is a criminal offence under Malaysian law. It can bring serious consequences to your future immigration applications.
