The entrance test for Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) is scheduled for March 9, 2024; the notification of admission has been released. The application window opens on January 25th, 2024 for those who meet the eligibility criteria.

A preliminary exam is part of the two-phased admission procedure, and only those who made the preliminary test shortlist will be allowed to take the main entrance exam on March 9, 2024.

Eligibility for BUET Admission Test

The eligibility criteria for the BUET admission tests are as follows:

  • Must be a Bangladeshi national.
  • Completed Secondary School Certificate/Dakhil/Equivalent Examination with a minimum GPA of 4.00 in science (including mathematics, physics, and chemistry).
  • Completed Higher Secondary/Alim/Equivalent Examination with a minimum GPA of 5.00 in mathematics, physics, and chemistry.

For GCE ‘O’ and ‘A’ Level applicants

  • You must complete the GCE ‘O’ Level Examination with a minimum B grade in each of at least five subjects, including mathematics, physics, chemistry, and English.
  • Completed GCE ‘A’ Level Examination with a minimum ‘A’ grade in any two of the three subjects of mathematics, physics, and chemistry, and a minimum ‘B’ grade in one subject.

Selection for the Preliminary Test

  • All eligible applicants will be ranked based on their total marks in mathematics, physics, and chemistry in the Higher Secondary/Equivalent Examination and their marks in mathematics and physics.

The Preliminary Test will be held in two shifts for eligible applicants who meet the above conditions. The equivalence of the candidates’ merit distribution will be ensured in each shift following a statistical method. The list of applicants considered eligible to participate in the Preliminary Test will be published on the university website. The top 18,000 applicants will be eligible to participate in the Preliminary Test. All eligible applicants will be ranked based on their total marks in mathematics, physics, and chemistry in the Higher Secondary/Equivalent Examination and their marks in mathematics and physics. The top 18,000 applicants will be eligible to participate in the Preliminary Test.

Main Admission Test

Based on the merit of the Preliminary Test results, the top 3,000 students from each shift will be selected to participate in the Main Admission Test. A minimum of 12 candidates from minority communities (subject to sufficient applications) will also be eligible to participate in the Main Admission Test. The list of applicants considered eligible to participate in the Main Admission Test will be published on the university website.

It is to be noted that applicants who have taken part in or been accepted into a prior BUET entrance exam are not eligible this time.

Application process

The application process for the BUET is as follows:

  • Go to the BUET website [www.buet.ac.bd]
  • Click on the “Admission Guidelines” link.
  • Follow the instructions in the guidelines to fill out the application form.
  • Submit the application form online.
  • Receive your Application Serial No.
  • Pay the fees for the preliminary application and admission test.
  • Apply finally.

Admission Dates

  • Application deadline: February 2, 2024
  • Preliminary test list published: February 13, 2024
  • Preliminary test: February 24, 2024 (Shift 1: 10 am-11 am, Shift 2: 3 pm-4 pm)
  • Main admission test list published: February 29, 2024 (tentative)
  • Main admission test: March 9, 2024 (Module A: Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry for Groups A and B, 10 am-12 pm; Module B: Freehand
  • Drawing and Visual Spatial Intelligence for Group B, 2 pm-3:30 pm)
