Malaysia is already the 11th among the most popular study destinations in the world. Besides, It aims to be in the Top with 250,000 international students by 2025.

Why?

The answer is simple. Malaysia offers quality education at an affordable cost with a multicultural environment and a high standard of living. All without breaking the bank! Sounds crazy. Isn’t it?

So, If you’re planning to study in Malaysia, Let’s see everything you need to know—from applications to visa with tuition fees and living costs also.

Step 1: Applying to Study in Malaysia

Here’s the good news: applying to study in Malaysia is super easy, thanks to a system designed for international students!

If you’re applying to a private university, you’ll do it through Education Malaysia Global Services (EMGS). It’s a one-stop application system. That means you can apply to multiple universities at the same time.

But if you’re looking at a public university, you’ll need to apply directly to that institution.

Worried About English? No Problem!

English is widely spoken in Malaysia, and many universities use it as the main language of instruction. If you feel your English skills need some improvement, Career Paths has dedicated English mentors. Besides, Most universities offer English proficiency courses to help you out.

Step 2: Getting Your Student Visa & Pass

Every international student in Malaysia needs a Student Pass and a student visa. But don’t worry—it’s not as complicated as you think!

Getting a Student Pass

Once you get accepted into a university, they will apply for your Student Pass on your behalf. You’ll just need to pay a Personal Bond fee RM 750

Applying for a Student Visa

Now you have your Student Pass, it’s time to apply for your student visa. You’ll need to submit your application to the Malaysian embassy in Bangladesh.

To get approved, you must:

✅ Show your offer letter from the university
✅ Have proof of your Student Pass
✅ Prove you have enough money to cover tuition & living costs
✅ Be in good health and of good character
✅ Confirm that you’re coming to Malaysia solely for study

Depending on the specific country, you might be asked for additional documents.

Step 3: Tuition Fees—What Will It Cost?

One of the best things about tuition fees for studying in Malaysia? It’s affordable!

Here’s a quick breakdown of the tuition fees:

🏫 Public Universities → Around US$2,534 per year (e.g., Universiti Malaya)
🏛 Private Universities → Around US$3,950 per year
🌎 International Branch Campuses → More expensive, but still cheaper than studying in the original country.

For example, if you want to study

CSE at Monash University Malaysia, you’ll pay (~US$10,000 per year). The same degree at Monash University Australia costs (~US$23,400 per year)—more than double!

So, if you’re looking for world-class education at an affordable price, Malaysia is a smart choice.

Step 4: Living Costs in Malaysia

Now, let’s talk about your day-to-day expenses.

On average, international students need around (~US$3,440 to 4,600 per year) for:

🍽 Food
🏡 Accommodation
🚌 Transportation

Pretty reasonable, right? But here’s an important note:

⛔ International students CANNOT work during term time.

✅ You CAN work during semester breaks (for at least 7 days) but only for up to 20 hours per week.

So, while part-time jobs are limited, proper budgeting will help you manage your expenses smoothly.
